Proud history, bleak future

I feel a bit like a stuck record at the moment, coming out with the same thing week in, week out. I didn’t think it could get much worse but the Leicester game is honestly the worst game I have seen us play in my twenty-four years.

By the sixty-fifth minute, I’d given up the ghost and was paying more attention to Twitter than to what was going on the pitch. I did glance back every now and again to see some lovely football by the Foxes, some fight from the Foxes and some passion from the Foxes. I looked on in envy. They didn’t give up, forcing saves from Guzan and chasing every last ball, which was admirable, given that they were playing for what was the bottom side in the Premier League before kick-off. If they’d lost, at least they couldn’t say they hadn’t gave their all – and therein lies the problem with the Villans.

The players don’t seem to be proud to be out on the field wearing the famous claret and blue of Aston Villa Football Club – and why should they be? None of the decision-makers seem to be interested in how the club is faring. The manager hasn’t got a clue how to solve the issues he faces and he has completely lost the fans now. I am genuinely struggling to see solutions to the problems.

Sacking Lambert would be a start and, hoping we get lucky with someone competent replacing him, a new manager could make a huge difference to style, tactics and morale. Lambert will be the main target for the fans’ anger now as he’s the most readily accessible figure. He can’t hide from the fans come match days and we need to make our feelings abundantly clear at the Liverpool game. I’m not one for protests: I don’t think they help the players on the pitch. What options are we left with? Not attending? There’s a group of fans who will always be there if physically possible. I put myself in that category so not going simply isn’t a option for me. In addition, having shelled out £500 for a season ticket, I’m damn well going to try to extract some joy from it.

The only way I can see a change being made is following full, vocal fan revolt. That does not mean fighting each other, as I was disappointed to see happen at the Leicester game. The bed sheets need to come out and the anti-Lerner and Lambert chants need to be sung. As fans, we need to try anything we can think of to get our point across. Enough is enough. Players, managers and owners come and go but we’re the ones who will be there for life and most of us have run out of patience.

We have a very proud history but, at the moment, a very bleak future.

  1. I want Lambert out as much as the next guy but I see we are about to sign a player from Valencia for a couple of million so I can’t see him being sacked before the end of the season, but as supporters we can influence the board’s decision to move Lambert on at the end of the season because that I believe is what will happen, I can see him being backed in this window and if results don’t improve I can definitely see him being sacked when the season finishes, he is surely in his last chance saloon.

  2. If we signed the whole Man City team we would still be in the same position with a manager whose tactics seem to be.

Dahhhh ummm go out and kick the round thingy then chase after it and keep kicking it. If it errr goes in the air try and dahhh head it, using your head.

Don’t worry about the fans mooing they are having fun.

It is so pointless nowadays to even think about traveling to VP, we all know what is going to happen. I can not believe that no one is interested in buying Villa. What a sad state of affairs.
