• Still No.1 in the Midlands..

Normal service was resumed yesterday after a 1-0 victory over Liverpool ment that Villa would finish as the top side in the Midlands, possibly one of very few highs in a very poor season.

Despite the weather not quick being what it usually is on a final day of a Premiership season, it was certainly a very interesting one for those inside Villa Park yesterday afternoon.

I am not going to kid you and make out that you missed one of the best games of the season because it was far from it. Stewart Downing stood out once again as the star player and it was his goal which resulted in all three points and a top half finish despite looking in a lot of trouble just a few weeks back.

No instead it was the constant update from mobile phones, radios and even the signs inside the ground about the goings on it what was billed as ‘Survival Sunday’.

The bottom three changed no less than 14 occasions during the 90minutes of play, with Wolves, Blackpool, Birmingham and Wigan all playing there part in the afternoons goings on.

Eventually as I’m sure your all well aware of by now, Birmingham City returned to were they belong, the fizzy pop league, alongside Blackpool.

Despite the fact we won’t have a ‘real’ derby game next season, I believe it will do us a favour as we can all forget about the goings on from across the City and remember what’s most important, Aston Villa Football Club.

Despite how poor we have been this season, we have finished with wins over both Arsenal and Liverpool and proved just what we are capable of so lets hope regardless of who the manager may be next season we can build on this and push on for a place in Europe next season.
