• AVFC conducting a survey to season tickets holders

Whilst relaxing with my beautiful fiancée, I heard the sounds of Lybrinth’s Earthquake coming from my iPhone. An unknown number? Normally I would put these down, but to my surprise, I found I was talkimg someone from the Aston Villa ticket office asking to conduct a survey regarding my season ticket.

For the last few years I have had my ticket (since they went cheap for the North Stand) I have NEVER had anyone phone me or ask me about my season ticket.

So, I went along with it. The person on the other end asked me a range of questions (in the section below I will give you the questions I was asked & the answers I replied with):

    What is your seating like?

Brilliant, I wouldn’t move anywhere else in the ground.

How have you found the atmosphere in the North Stand?

I love it, we are close to the away fans & there is always some bit of entertainment & banter going on.

How have you found the atmosphere in Villa Park itself?

Very poor, probably the worst I’ve known for years.

Have there been any games you haven’t gone to and why?

The Arsenal game, which I heard, was our best game! (they laughed & replied yes it was) only reason I couldn’t go was due to I was flying out the next morning.

    Do you know about viagogo?

Yeah I do, I would use it if I couldn’t find anyone to have my ticket.

Are you part of the cup scheme?

No I am not, I don’t have any issues getting my tickets. I do know about the service.

Do you use the kiosks at the club and how are you finding the pricing of food & drinks?

It’s not too bad, bit pricey for a cuppa, but its not as bad as other stadiums such as Old Trafford & Goodison.

What would make you renew your ticket for next year? free AVTV?

The free AVTV was a nice touch, one of the reasons I brought my ticket.

Do you think the club should do a price freeze?

Yes, a freeze or a price drop would be handy.

What would stop you from renewing your ticket next season for example a low league place?

No, that wouldn’t bother me. To be honest, the only reason I wouldn’t renew and don’t take this the wrong way, is if Alex was still in charge of the team. I’m a Villa supporter & I’ll support my team but managers & boards come & go. (Now, their response wasn’t one of surprise, it was one of ‘I’ve heard that tonight already’)

Did you like the idea of the gift box we produced this season?

Yes I did, very nice touch with the DVD & vouchers.

Have you used any of the vouchers?

Yes, the ones for the free cuppas etc have come in handy.

You do realise there was vouchers for prices off at the club shop?

Yes I did, but I didn’t want to buy a shirt this season.

    Can I ask why?

Well, after Nike’s cock up last year I thought it was very poor. Plus with the rumour of you guys dumping Nike at the end of the season I don’t think there is much point. If Villa did the same thing again for example the vouchers I would consider it.

Ok, that’s brilliant, thanks for your help. Is there anything you care to ask me?

Who’s coming into the club this window (laughed) no no, I am fine thank you, I’m just keeping my ear down to the ground to see if anyone is coming in but I ain’t going to be surprised if we don’t sign anyone till the summer.

They ended the call by thanking me again.

Is the club providing good customer service (all of a sudden) or is the club worried about even more people not renewing their season tickets for next season?

Make of it what you will, but I think that the club & board are starting to worry. But, if anybody receives a phone call from the clubs ticket office. Please be honest with them. I was & they were grateful for my feedback.

Interesting. I’ve given Macleish my support as Manager for the teams sake. I’ve given good money for me and my lad to get season tickets and I’m not going to protest at the awful football we’ve been served up by staying away. I won’t boo the team and I don’t leave the ground early; the boys need our support. BUT. If your friendly researcher were to call ME about what would make me reconsider renewing my season ticket I would answer as you did; not if Macleish is still Manager. I don’t wonder that this might be the case for many thousands of season ticket holders. I’ve been claret and blue and a season ticket holder since my family and I moved to the area sixteen years ago and I’ve never known it so bad at Villa Park. The atmosphere is terrible. Perhaps someone who runs a site like this could compile a list of season ticket holders who ARE preparing not to renew. I’d certainly put my name to it and if Lerner and Faulkner (or one of their researchers) were to see in black and white the danger of losing so many loyal supporters (and I really do think there’ll be a mass exodus if Macleish is still here next season), then maybe they’ll get their fingers out of their ears and listen to us.

Would love to have one of these phonecalls myself, if only to add my name to the ever-growing list of fans who (quite rightly) can’t/won’t justify spending upwards of another 600, 700 pounds on the dross being served up to us. Right now I wouldn’t take one even if they were giving them away, it’s just not worth the 40 quid in petrol going to/from Bristol every week, only to face the 90-minute drive back feeling angry, cheated, depressed…

I don’t care who the next manager is; the moment he’s run out of our great stadium I will be pledging my intention to renew my ticket. We absolutely need to show Randy and his cronies just what the stand to lose financially if they stick with this clueless muppet of a manager, but that requires a collaborative effort, not just a couple of hundred of the more determined supporters…
